Some fans believe that Memphis Smith overreacted to Hamza lying about his age on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, but she actually went easy on him.

While some may believe that Memphis Smith overreacted to Hamza’s lie about his age, Memphis actually went easy on him based on their previous interactions on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. The popular 90 Day Fiancé spin-off follows potential couples as they travel to foreign countries and form a new relationship with their love interests. There’s no shortage of jaw-dropping and drama-filled moments on season 5, and most of them involve Memphis.

During a particular chat with Hamza’s sister Rawia in episode 6, Memphis found out that Hamza is not 28 years old, but actually 26. Memphis, being the strong-minded woman that she is, quickly confronted him and asked Hamza if there were any more lies. In response, Hamza’s mother thought Memphis’ reaction was “exaggerated,” and some fans agreed when she started asking for Hamza’s diploma and talked about canceling their wedding. On the other hand, given their history, there are many viewers who believe that her reaction to this obvious red flag was appropriate.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time that Hamza has lied to her. When Memphis first arrived, she believed they would sleep in the same bed, only to find out that Hamza’s mother was strictly against them sleeping together before marriage. His deceit disappointed Memphis within moments of meeting each other. He told her on the way to his home, “Me mama told me not to sleep before marriage.” Although she reluctantly agreed to abide by his mother’s rules, Memphis acknowledged the red flag as she told the cameras, “But I am a little annoyed how Hamza has been so reassuring that we can sleep in the same bed together and now all of a sudden it’s a whole ‘nother story.”

With their wedding scheduled to happen before she returns to the United States, it’s understandable why Memphis would be as concerned as she was upon learning about Hamza’s age difference. Marrying someone is a big step, so it’s important to have trust and believe that you are marrying an honest partner. While two years is not an enormous lie, it increases their age gap up to eight years. However, Memphis claims that this age gap isn’t the concern, explaining: “The actual lying is more devastating to me than the age gap.” Knowing how vocal Memphis has been in the past, it’s surprising how easily she took the news.

In the end, small red flags can be as important as the bigger ones. Hamza has already admitted to a few lies, and Memphis has the right to be upset. In the past, she’s been more direct about much less concerning issues. So, in comparison, perhaps this means that their communication issues might clear up. In any case, the upcoming previews for the latest 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 days episode showcases a seemingly frantic Memphis worrying about making it to the consulate on time. Now, viewers are curious to see if that means Memphis can forgive Hamza’s white lies.
