GG is in the midst of a cancer battle.
As DDWTD fans may know, Deon’s mother has been battling lung cancer. Much of this challenging, heartbreaking journey has been documented on their TLC show. She was first diagnosed with cancer in 2014. Then, in 2022, the beloved TLC grandma received the news that a cancerous lump in her lung was the size of a baseball.
Along the way, fans have received many updates as GG navigates treatment and many doctors’ appointments. Fans have rallied around the Derricos, offering prayers and words of encouragement.
Doubling Down With the Derricos: GG gets a major cancer update.
In the DDWTD Season 4 finale, GG gets a huge update on her cancer journey. She and Deon head to a checkup and receive some surprising news. Fortunately, despite all of the ups and downs along the way, she received a very positive update from her doctor.
The doctor explained, “I didn’t see anything new, and the cancer has shrunk down a lot. The largest part is about two and a half to three centimeters only, and it was almost three times that when we started.”
The doctor made it clear that they haven’t hit the 100% mark yet. But they are making excellent progress. They have a few options moving forward, including chemo, immunotherapy, and radiation.
Deon is shocked and satisfied with this positive update about his mom. However, GG isn’t sure how to handle this news. While it’s good news, she’s uncertain about the next steps.
In a confessional, GG explains what’s holding her back. She says, “Radiation is something that terrifies me more than chemo because if I go through that radiation, it will be something else after that.”
Finally, GG adds, I feel like I’m never gonna stop climbing this mountain. I am done.”
