However, one notable absentee was Tammy’s mother, Darlene, who refused to leave her house even after Tammy’s sister Amy Slaton tried to convince her. Darlene rejected Amy’s pleas, saying she needed to be home for her babies (her dogs), while also complaining the trip would be too long due to the condition of her legs. Darlene’s reaction and statement irked 1000-lb Sisters fans, who have called on Tammy to cut off her mother.

In a post-episode discussion thread on Reddit, fans questioned Darlene’s care for Tammy and the rest of her children. Reddit user u/kelsnuggets noted Darlene’s pessimistic words regarding Tammy’s surgery, where the Slaton matriarch said, “Hopefully they don’t call me up saying ‘your daughter died,’ but I guess it’s just in God’s hands… Bruh what.” The Reddit user felt Darlene’s comment reeked of distaste towards her daughter because, besides not visiting Tammy, a mother shouldn’t hint at her daughter’s death like Darlene did.

Meanwhile, other Redditors who commented under the thread expressed disappointment at Darlene’s comments. They pointed out that she was probably more abusive to Tammy behind the scenes if she could say something horrendous about her daughter while being filmed. Redditor u/bvonboom continued, “she comes across meaner than a rattlesnake in front of the cameras when most people will try to put a nicer facade, I can’t imagine how nasty she was when they were all little.” The Redditor also explained how Tammy had been hugging stuffed animals during recent interviews, after which the therapist suggested the 1000-lb Sisters star was never allowed to have them as a child.

She’s probably the source of most of Tammy’s issues anyhow.” Unsurprisingly, many others agreed, and some said that Tammy’s mother Darlene is an awful person because she seems to be the source of her childrens’ problems.

Many fans believe it would do Tammy a lot of good to cut her mother’s negative influence away from her life. Although asking a child to cut off a parent is tricky, it is hard to defend Darlene’s actions and words towards her daughter.
