After seasons of drama around Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh’s romance, the 90 Day Fiancé stars finally tied the knot, but fans are still skeptical.
Lots of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 3 viewers were shocked when Sumit Singh and Jenny Slatten finally got married on the most recent episode, and some fans still believe that Sumit doesn’t have the best intentions. Sumit and Jenny met on Facebook in 2012, although Jenny believed that the man she was chatting to was “Michael Jones.” Upon discovering that “Michael” was really a call center employee named Sumit, Jenny was undeterred. She flew to India to meet him on a tourist visa.
Ever since viewers got to know Sumit and Jenny in 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 1, Jenny has been trying (and, until now, failing) to get Sumit to marry her so she could remain in India. First, it came to light that Sumit was already married to someone else. He claimed it was arranged by his parents and said he wanted a divorce. After that union was dissolved, Sumit’s mother Sadhna Singh claimed she would end her life if her son married Jenny, because of the pair’s 30-year age difference. When Sumit’s family astrologer Khalid convinced Sadhna to allow the couple to get married, they went to a marriage lawyer. However, Sumit called the attorney behind Jenny’s back and asked to put the marriage on hold, due to his “marriage anxiety.”
Some franchise fans on Reddit are speculating that the only reason Sumit is marrying Jenny is so he can continue to stay on the show and receive a paycheck. One Reddit user, noirblancherouje, pointed out that Sumit doesn’t appear to have a job aside from appearing on the TLC show, stating that they think Sumit is “playing the long con and waiting to be able to go on The Single Life.” Another Redditor believes TLC actually told Sumit he had to marry Jenny in order to stay on the show and continue getting paid. The user also thinks Sumit and Jenny will appear on the spin-off 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? as a reward for getting married.
Aside from the fact that Sumit asked the attorney to put the marriage on hold, and the reality that it took the two nearly a decade to get married, there is another big reason why viewers think Sumit is only tying the knot for the money. Reddit users noted that Sumit looks unhappy in all of the marriage pics, with one Redditor remarking that the Indian man looked horrified after marrying. Fans just don’t believe in Sumit, and a Redditor, hanahhstays, proclaimed that Sumit’s facial expression in the wedding photos shows that he is “ready to bolt.” They also questioned if the younger man Sumit wanted to marry after delaying it for ten years. The 90 Day Fiancé fan wrote, “You expect me to believe he had an epiphany that this is what he wants to do?”
Regardless of the motives behind Sumit and Jenny’s marriage, the drama is not over for this couple. The Indian man and the Californian woman got married without telling Sumit’s parents, with a plan to tell them later. However, the preview for next week’s Tell-All episode shows that Sadhna will join the reunion cast along with Sumit’s father, Anil. It’s hard to tell what the future holds for Sumit and Jenny, but 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way viewers will have to keep following the franchise to find out if the marriage is legit, or just for the paycheck.
